There’s a competition going on over at the Something Awful forums right now. A competition to see if Let’s Play videos can be Art. I’ll let forums moderator Zorak explain the deal:

What do you mean, “Let’s Play as Art?”

It’s simple. You conceive in your head a notion of a fun, interesting, or unique take on doing a Let’s Play video of a stage of the game we are doing. You could do literally anything with it. 

You could make a standard video that’s extremely informative or funny that shows either the skill of your commentary or the depth of your effort, if that’s your inclination. You could also take the more artistic avant garde approach as well. Do your commentary entirely in Haiku, replace the soundtrack with your live acoustic guitar playing, do the stage in some weird meta way that’s incredibly hilarious, whatever you can think of. Just make it entertaining and/or remarkable! Creativity and effort is what will make you King. 

The game is Final Fight. I’ve submitted myself into the running but after seeing Didja Redo‘s video, i’m almost put off entering because of its sheer awesomeness. Take a few minutes to watch The Ballad of Mike Haggar and enjoy the hell out of it, I command you.
